2005 Mardi Gras Pictures

Egan Mardi Gras Courir
January 29, 2005
Return to main schedule/photo page.

About 7:45 a.m., Tony Lacombe, shown in the right column in blackface, gave his instructions to the Mardi Gras, telling them to refrain from any actions that would damage property or risk injury.

Then, the 5th annual revived Egan Mardi Gras Courir rolled away from the Knights of Columbus Hall about 8:10 a.m. on a foggy morning. The photos on this page were taken during the first two stops. At each stop, the Mardi Gras kneel before the home owner of the house, sing their song, dance, and beg. At some stops, the home owner also throws a chicken for the Mardi Gras to chase.

The photo at right shows the first chicken caught that morning. Other photos show the Mardi Gras picking up change tossed on the road and, toward the bottom, a home owner offering change to the outstretched hands of the Mardi Gras.

The Egan run is a family event that includes many children who now become part of a tradition that goes back many decades.
